Autumn colours

The Indian summer still lingers in these warm temperatures, but the garden is definitely wearing her autumn coat of many colours now.

Red stemmed dogwoods are showing their spindly limbs now.

The adventure playground is flanked by gorgeous red berried and red leafed Viburnum too.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking our flowering time is done in the garden though! There are plenty of vibrantly coloured flowers around even though we are heading towards the end of the season.

A gorgeous red Dahlia from the Bishop series and Osteospermum (the hardy african daisy) ‘Tresco Purple.’ The Dahlias are doing us proud at the minute all around the garden including in the potager vegetable garden.

We are also trying to establish a small colony of a more tender bulb Nerine bowdenii (the guernsey lily) with it’s lipstick pink blooms.

Hopefully a winter mulch will get these beauties established through the winter.

In other garden news we are continuing to replant some of the terrace beds with plants purchased using a grant we were fortunate to receive. While the main part of our therapy garden is cool, tranquil colours we are planting the terrace with hotter more energetic colours, which will be set off by the grassy green slopes in front of the beds.

We are also well on with our usual autumn job of leaf clearing, we are clearing the leaves within the walled garden and leaving those on the woodland walk for the minute for the important purpose of swooshing through them!

Hope you enjoyed your half term in the garden and don’t forget you can become one of those lucky visitors who get to stay on site in our wheelchair friendly holiday accommodation.
