Sorry for the time it has taken me to write this! Between Christmas germs, the event itself and all the work we have been doing it’s taken a while!
Firstly we had an outside contractor in to do some more tree works in the woodland walk for us. We have a nice collection of trees here at The Ty Glyn Davis Trust and some of them have reached the stage of maturity where they now need maintenance works to make them safe and keep them as a feature in the garden. So we closed the garden for a couple of days while an Ash tree which kept dropping branches was pruned. Further works are in the pipeline – watch this space!

In the centre of the picture is the tree surgeon mid-prune.
We cleared away the bulk of the prunings with a giant bonfire on the path, safely away from the other trees which we didn’t want to scorch.

A perfect bonfire!
Next we lifted Dahlias and put the vegetable and herb gardens to bed, followed by a lot of trimming back of herbaceous perennials and pruning trees. Still to come we are clearing a lot of the self seeded herbs from the terrace beds and re-planting when weather conditions allow and removing self – set buddleia and yet more pruning! We hope that all the hard work the gardeners and volunteers have put in will show great results next summer.
In the meantime winter made an appearance in the form of torrential hailstone and the coveted hoar frost. For a few days the garden became Ty Glyn’s version of a winter wonderland.

Thank goodness for the fire in the cottage.

The man in the pond became the man in the ice and he did look like he was feeling the cold too!

Even the animal sculptures grew icy hair for the day.

Why not start the new year as a volunteer here at The Ty Glyn Davis Trust. We need people for all types of gardening work, heavy and light, we can teach you to be technical or you can help us weed. You can help with DIY or fundraise to pay for it! Mondays and Wednesdays get in touch to get some exercise and fresh air in great company for a great cause.
