A big thankyou to Paul Toft tree services for a spectacularly precise felling of a dangerous tree which avoided the baby conifers which we wanted to keep. Apologies to the visitors who weren’t able to come in while we were making the garden safe. At The Ty Glyn Davis Trust we are working hard to look after our aging tree population for future generations and we are currently planning the best way to re-plant to maintain our woodlands.

Goodbye to the rotten Sycamore.
When felled it was clear that the rot continued some 10′ up into the tree.

Hemerocallis or daylilies should put on a good show by the main pond this year.
We have also been planting and clearing up on the terraces. The top two beds had a very narrow mix of plants remaining in them and mainly consisted of large drift of Phlomis russeliana. A lovely plant, but you can have too much of a good thing! So one section on the left hand side adjacent the steps has been cleared to reveal a rose which was lost in the Phlomis. We have replanted this with white Agapanthus, thrift, shrubby mediterranean Cistus and hardy geranium from our plant exchange. Today we began clearing the adjacent bed ready for re-planting with Dierama (Angel’s Fishing Rod) a graceful grassy leaved perennial and the shrubby Mexican Orange Blossom, Choisya ternata ‘Aztec Pearl.’ This will provide more much needed evergreen interest on the terrace with the benefit of the gorgeous scent of the Choisya.

Watch this space!
If we aren’t able to raise many more funds to plant up the beds we are clearing with permanent planting this year we intend to fill the gaps with annual perennials such as long flowering cosmos to provide interest. If you would like to donate plants to the garden please get in touch!
