Yes you heard me, winter isn’t long enough! Why? Because we have not got through our list of jobs put off as ‘winter jobs’ in the garden! We are still pruning, and removing and replanting. We have now removed 7 Buddleia shrubs and most recently cleared the lemon balm bed at the walled garden entrance to re-plant with the rhubarb that were drowning in the wet north wall border.

Another good reason for winter to be longer is of course so that the Snowdrop season is longer. Here at The Ty Glyn Davis Trust’s Walled Garden we are fortunate to have extensive plantings of the double version of our native snowdrop. The large slope to the right just before you enter the walled garden is about to come into bloom and there are also displays on the river banks and the lime walk. It is for this reason that we are hoping to hold a National Garden’s Scheme (NGS) open day next year for snowdrops. We hope to open the 2nd Sunday in February next year and will be the only Snowdrop Garden open in Ceredigion. We are busy this year adding more snowdrops to the garden and spreading out further the ones we have. If you have some special snowdrops to spare please get in touch!

Frosty quince flowers.
We are also planting other bulbs including the Tenby daffodil on the riverbank and we will be planting winter aconites and Iris reticulata soon.
Our collection of aging trees will also be having some more work done on them tomorrow and possibly Wednesday (snow permitting).
- THE GARDEN WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE TREE WORKS TUESDAY 3RD FEBRUARY AND POSSIBLY WEDNESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY*
Thankyou for your patience with us while we try to make our veteran trees safe so that we can continue to keep our lovely woodlands.
Finally today we actually had snow in the garden! Please be careful if you want to visit the garden in the snow as we are on an untreated road which was passable only with extreme care this morning.
